General overview: With the $2K, the International Education Committee has been able to achieve nearly all of the goals that we set out to accomplish. While the specifics are delineated below, overall, each of the goals has been met, with several still in progress.
Sandwich Boards – 2 sandwich boards were purchased and have been used frequently to promote events and study abroad programs. This has made a big difference for us in terms of getting the word out on campus.
Gift Card/Stipend to develop website – The website is fully operational, and the gift card was transferred to the student worker who developed it. You can access the website here.
International Student Handbook (for online distribution) – The International Student Handbook is in its final draft and has been given to the college graphic designer for assistance in creating an online landing place for it on the website. Gift cards have been distributed to the three people in charge of developing the Handbook.
Mini scholarships to assist international students with transportation costs, textbooks, and miscellaneous expenses have been created. We designed a form for requesting these scholarships, and the grant monies are available for students who request them through the International Student Counselor.
International Student Orientation Luncheon – Because our grant funds were not yet available for use at the beginning of Fall 2026, we will be using these funds for the Orientation Luncheon for Fall 2027 for our incoming International Students.
The CCIE grant has been an extremely helpful catalyst for creating a foundation for International Education and Study Abroad at Miramar College. We have been able to establish a digital presence as well as more of a physical presence on campus, allowing our programs and initiatives to grow. Support for International Students has never been as extensive as it is currently. We are grateful for the support of CCIE, as it has made a measurable difference on our campus for International Education.
