The CCIE Education Abroad Working Group will meet on Thursday June 22 at 4:00 pm. For the past few years, this monthly working group has talked about re-starting education abroad, virtual international education programs and internships, and internationalization at home initiatives. The June special speaker is Carola Smith (see bio below) who will focus on (1) creative program financing, including not using name-brand providers, enabling students to pay via the college Fiscal Office, and how to get more money to support/grow an education abroad office; (2) How to initiate and build outreach with the foundation and with community members; and (3) how to reinvent EA.

 

Carola Smith is the Assistant Superintendent / Vice President of the Santa Barbara City College School of Extended Learning. She first came to Santa Barbara City College as an international student. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from UCSB prior to returning to SBCC as an instructor in the ESL department and the School of Modern Languages. For the past 21 years, she has served in a variety of administrative roles, including as Director of Study Abroad and General Work Experience, Senior Director of International Programs, and for the past three years as Dean of Educational Programs. She has extensive experience working with education abroad, career technical education programs, the Business Division, Media Arts, the Career Center, as well as with other student support services.
