College of Global Engagement, Kansai Gaidai University, Japan: An exciting transfer opportunity for community college students to receive a B.A. degree from a Japanese university

The complex and integrated nature of the many opportunities and challenges facing the world today requires a more integrated response from individuals with diverse experiences and values.  In response to this need, Kansai Gaidai University (located in Hirakata, Japan) will launch a new school in 2023 — the College of Global Engagement. The College aims to nurture individuals who are equipped with competencies and communication skills to work effectively in a multi-cultural setting so as to make positive contributions to global society. The College of Global Engagement offers a unique opportunity for international students to transfer to a Japanese university as a 3rd year student and obtain a B.A. degree in two years by taking courses all taught in English. Courses are offered in three academic disciplines:  Humanities, Social Sciences, Business/Economics. This multi-disciplinary perspective will give students a broader understanding of how all of these disciplines work together to address global issues.

In all disciplines, course content is mainly focused on Japan and Asia. The curriculum has been developed on the basis of Kansai Gaidai’s 50-year history of offering the Asian Studies Program for international students. Japanese language courses are also available to those who wish to improve their Japanese language proficiency.  Curricular and extracurricular programs include team-based projects and activities with local Japanese students as well as students from all over the world.  With enhanced knowledge and experience acquired by living in Japan for two academic years, community college transfer students will develop strong credentials as global leaders who can function effectively in a challenging international arena.
