CAORC’s Faculty Development Seminars Return
CAORC’s Faculty Development Seminars are back! These are fully funded two-week, overseas seminars that are open to community college and minority serving institution faculty and administrators. Our seminars are run in partnership with participating Overseas Research Centers. The seminars offered for this application cycle were Senegal, “West Africa and the Diaspora—Continuities and Transformations”; Mexico, “Mexico’s Indigenous Languages and Cultures”; and India, “Exploring Urban Sustainability through India’s Cities”, with applications still open for the seminar to Mexico until September 13th!
There is an immediate and growing need for US community colleges and minority-serving institutions to provide a global perspective to students that will broaden students’ cultural horizons and foster critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills for an increasingly interconnected world. CAORC sees this need and specifically offers these seminars to help faculty and administrators do exactly that. The aim of this program is to help develop and improve international courses, curricula, and teaching materials at their home institutions through the experience of traveling to another country and gaining a better understanding of that country with the program plan set forth by the Overseas Research Centers.
Our Overseas Research Centers are a hub of intellectual activity and lend invaluable assistance to traveling scholars including library access, archives, staff assistance, networking, residential facilities, and obtaining visas and research permissions. These centers are the perfect place for inquiring minds and are ideal for partnering with CAORC on our Faculty Development Seminars.
Awarded participants for these seminars will receive round-trip travel, accommodations, and meals for the duration of the two-week seminar and each seminar will be comprised of approximately 12-15 participants.
